BUDGET:         $25,000.00

DEADLINE:      August 1, 2018

The City of Pompano Beach is looking to purchase an already fabricated, pre-existing sculpture for their permanent collection.

THEME & REQUIREMENTS
There is no theme; however, the City is seeking symbolic connectivity for the community within the Art and Historical District. The artwork should be significant in size. Artists must submit a pre-existing artwork for purchase. The City of Pompano Beach will only purchase unique works of art.

Be aware of the artworks location and keep in mind its sense of place. The artwork will be located in the Innovation District and should reflect as such. The Innovation District is Pompano Beach’s vision of creating a vibrant and pedestrian friendly, urban, mixed-use Downtown by attracting a combination of business, technical, corporate, government, hospitality, education and cultural uses. Following a “Smart City” concept that considers the physical and technical integration of people and places, Downtown will become a hub of activity. For more information on the Innovation District, please visit http://pompanobeachfl.gov/assets/docs/pages/cra/Downtown%20Pompano%20Beach%20Marketing%20Collateral.pdf. See page 23.

QUALITIES OF ARTWORK
The artwork should be durable and require minimal ongoing maintenance. South Florida has a sub-tropical climate and is hot and humid with an intense sun and seasonal heavy rain. Problems with rust and fading should be avoided. Resistance to high-speed winds is important. The artwork must be self-supporting on an open landscape or hardscape.

PROJECT LOCATION
The sculpture will be located in the Innovation District on the corner of Dixie Highway and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The Artist is required to transport and install the artwork at the location. Artist must supply all materials needed for installation including power.

ARTWORK PURCHASE BUDGET
The purchase budget established for the project is $25,000.00. The price will include all insurance, taxes, fees, permits, delivery and installation. The City will be responsible for the fees relating to the slab the artwork will be placed on.

PERMITS

It shall be the artist’s responsibility, where applicable, to obtain all necessary permits prior to installation. The artist will ensure that the design is code compliant and can stand up to South Florida weather conditions and wind load requirements.

BACKGROUND ON POMPANO BEACH PUBLIC ART PROGRAM

In 2012, the Pompano Beach City Commission adopted a public art ordinance to “enhance the aesthetic and cultural value of the city by including works of art on public properties within the city.” The City Commission seeks “benefits of public art that are both aesthetic and economic.” For more information on what is planned over the next ten year period, please refer to the Public Art Masterplan that is located at http://pbpublicart.com/
