Exhibition: “Look at everything as though you are seeing it either for the first or last time; then your time on earth will be filled with glory.”
~ Betty Smith, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
U.S. researchers have discovered that the human brain can interpret images in just 13 milliseconds. But how many do we really see? How many colors are layered into that egg shell? How many facets shape the eye of a fly? Hint: 750. Study the papery gills on a mushroom or the palatial structures of anthills. Our world is a monument to wonder and, as artists, we are called to see, to explore, to present these everyday epiphanies as a moment of refuge and delight for an overloaded and often blinded world. Work may focus on the natural world, human moments, oddities, or a glimpse of the hidden. Show us what you see!
We invite your participation in any medium; both 2-D and 3-D are welcome. There are no size restrictions; however, space will be a consideration. All US artists are welcome to apply.
Prize: Best of Show $500; Binders Gift Certificates for 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place
Judge: Lee Baumgarten, www.leebaumgarten.com
Lee is a proponent/advocate for creativity and innovation, for creating a better paradigm in public education and advocating “Art” as a catalyst for change. His presentation at the United Design Alliance (UDA) 5th Symposium in Switzerland/Liechtenstein National Museum (September 13, 2017) packages his perspective, passions and concerns regarding the growing realizations in support of new constructs determining our “human ecology” and modern social movements utilizing art & design as a vehicle. Lee believes the growing awareness of creative thinking and Human Centered Design(HCD) is a viable and unstoppable evolution toward a greater global culture.
He has received grants, awards and honors, but the most centric was a national grant to his non-profit organization CCAC by the national Dunspaugh-Dalton Foundation in 2013, to promote “creativity and innovation” STEAM education in our school systems.
Lee has regularly produced artworks, gallery exhibits, student workshops and cultural projects in the Charlotte area since 1998, expanding across the US and into Europe since 2012. Currently he’s working to engage professionals in the international creative community through more direct relationships for similar goals, collaborations and professional group efforts. His creative objectives are measurable through equating values of the “visual impact” of a work of art to the merit and clarity of “artistic message” communicated to the viewer.
Born in Charlotte, Lee is happily at home with a family of creatives, professional artists and students who consistently challenge his every thought. A grand life!
