DEADLINE:  March 20, 2017

Denver Arts & Venues (A&V) established the policies for the Urban Arts Fund (UAF) in 2007 and the first mural projects were implemented in 2009.  The UAF awards funds in amounts ranging from $1,000 - $8,000 through a competitive process.

Eligibility:  Any artist or team of artists demonstrating the ability to execute a successful mural project regardless of race, color, creed, gender, gender variance, national origin, age, religion, marital status, political opinion or affiliation, or mental or physical disability. We encourage emerging artists to apply.

Denver Arts & Venues is committed to diversity, inclusiveness and equity in all programs, initiatives and decision making processes.

Preference will be given to projects with:

  • a well-planned youth development and community engagement component

  • first time applicants - artists and organizations who have not received funding in previous years

  • mural applications specifically in Denver City Council Districts four, five, six, eight, or eleven which currently have few or zero mural projects.

Cherry Creek Trail

Murals along the Cherry Creek bicycle and pedestrian trail (CCT) began in 2014 near Confluence Park adding vibrancy to oft-vandalized areas.  Local artists as well as international artists will be considered for a potential of 1-3 projects in 2017.  The CCT is public (City) property and approved projects will have additional requirements including, but not limited to, a community engagement component.

  • UAF Award Notification: April 2017

  • Application review can take 2-4 weeks, and if approved, the City may require an additional 4-6 weeks to conduct background checks on participants (if working with youth), draft contracts, agreements and process invoices.  Please make allowances for this review and processing period when planning your project.

  • Applications may be recommended for funding at a level lower than requested.

  • The UAF steering committee may give conditional approval for some projects pending additional information.  Applicants receiving conditional approval may be required to engage surrounding community in an input and public comment phase before approval is finalized.
