PROUD PROSPECTUS

PROUD is an exhibition of visual art running from June 2 - 25, 2017 produced by The Studio Door.  The exhibit is a precursor to San Diego’s Pride celebrations held in July.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) artists are encouraged to present contemporary works that celebrate the unique sense of pride that this diverse community has.  The Studio Door is seeking artwork that expresses authentic viewpoints of the LGBTQ experience.  Artists are encouraged to submit meaningful works underscoring identity, lifestyle and diversification. Show us what your Pride looks like.

PROUD is an exhibit designed to celebrate LGBTQ artists in honor of the Stonewall Riots during National Pride Month.  If you do not self-identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or Queer, we respectfully ask that you consider entering one of The Studio Door's other calls for 2017.

Concurrent programming is being coordinated for San Diego artists with Art of Pride at San Diego Pride offices.  More details to be announced. The Studio Door is happy to announce a continuation of collaboration with both organizations.

JUROR

Alex Fialho • Visual AIDS Programs Director / Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Research and Curatorial Associate

BEST IN SHOW

A Juror's Award ribbon and certificate will be presented to three works that express the most imaginative interpretation of the theme. One work will be designated “Best in Show” and will be used as the cover of the exhibition catalog.  Exhibition catalogs will be available online print-on-demand.

The Studio Door is currently negotiating sponsorship.  Cash prizes and other awards may be announced at a later date.

GALLERY & ON-LINE GALLERY

There are two opportunities to get into this show. The juror will select works that will be exhibited at The Studio Door gallery in San Diego. Additionally, the juror will select works that will be shown in the on-line gallery only. This allows for more works to be seen beyond the limitations of the main gallery.  You have the option to declare “in gallery”, “on-line gallery” or both during the application process.  All accepted works regardless of “in gallery” or “online gallery” are eligible for Best in Show.

CATALOG

All artwork selected, both gallery and online, will be included in the national exhibition virtual catalog.

USE OF IMAGERY

If your artwork is selected for either the gallery or online exhibition, Artists grant The Studio Door permission to photograph selected artwork.  The Studio Door reserves the right to use art images for marketing and publicity without compensation.

ELIGIBILITY

Visual Artists

Note: PROUD is conceived as a national show (USA) due to the costs of shipping and potential customs issues.  Due to the interest from our international community, it has been decided to open up the show. As seen above, we have two opportunities: in gallery and virtual online exhibitions spaces.  We assume that most, if not all, international artists will prefer to participate exclusively online and that's okay.  It comes down to whether or not it the show gives value to you and your body of work.

ARTWORK MAXIMUM SIZE

2-Dimensional Work: Height 8 feet, Width 4 feet - including frame

3-Dimensional Work: Sculptural and small installation work is encouraged.  Works must be able to fit through an average doorway and not exceed 8’ in height.  If you are unsure if your work is size acceptable, please contact The Studio Door at forallweknow@thestudiodoor.com

ARTWORK PRESENTATION

2-D artwork must arrive 'gallery ready' and 'ready to hang' and be presented professionally. Preferrably, framed artwork should be in black wood or natural wood frame. No color mats.  Exception is made if frame or mat is essential to the work of art. Due to problems with shipping 2-D artwork, no glass - plexi only.
