Budget: Up to $15,000 Deadline: January 10, 2014 The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, on behalf of the Rhode Island Gubernatorial Portrait Commission is issuing a call for portrait artists interested in being considered for a commission of up to $15,000.00 (inclusive of all costs and expenses) to produce a complete and framed oil painting as the official portrait of Governor Lincoln D. Chafee. This commission must be complete on or before December 30, 2014. The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, a state agency, is managing the process on behalf of the Portrait Commission and is gathering digital images representing the work of professional portrait artists for the consideration of the Governor. In accordance with state regulations, the Governor shall choose an artist from among these submissions, and a commission will be offered for an official portrait of not less than 29 x 25 and not more than 114 x 74 in size. The artist chosen will be required to work with and receive direction from the Governor regarding certain aspects of this commission, and work with the Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission with respect to framing of the finished portrait. Applications will be submitted through CallforEntry.org, a web-based artist application process. Artists will be asked to submit a resume and upload six digital images of previously commissioned work. Interested artists have until Friday, January 10, 2014 to submit samples of their work to the State Council on the Arts. All digital images must be accompanied by a list showing the name of the artist, the title of the work or subject, medium, size and year completed. The list should also provide information on the commission price or fee for each sample work submitted. Please do not submit material for this call through anything means other than the online application process. Neither the Rhode Island Council on the Arts nor the State of Rhode Island is responsible for damage or loss of materials submitted to this office. Original works of art will not be accepted as part of the review process. Online applications must be submitted on or before Friday, January 10, 2014. We anticipate that a decision will be made by no later than April 2014.
