The City of Aurora, Colorado invites artists/artist teams residing in the following states to submit qualifications to be considered for a public art commission at the Aurora Animal Shelter: COLORADO, ARIZONA, UTAH, KANSAS, NEW MEXICO AND WYOMING.

BUDGET: $15,000

MEDIA: Metal wall sculpture

ELIGIBILITY: Artists who reside in the following states are eligible: COLORADO, ARIZONA, UTAH, KANSAS, NEW MEXICO AND WYOMING. Artists who do not live in these states may team up with one who does.

The Project Art Selection Panel envisions a metal wall sculpture to be placed on the north and west facades of the building creating a sense of arrival and to help mark the entrance to the facility.

The artwork should express the Animal Shelter’s functions as a sanctuary and beacon of hope for animals in need. The Shelter provides a safe-haven for homeless, lost and injured animals. The artwork should depict a story of comfort and optimism.

The project budget is $15,000 and should cover all expenses including, but not limited to:
Artist Fee
Structural Engineering
Consultants
Fabrication
Transportation
Installation
Graffiti/UV Protectant
Overhead Costs
Contingency
Site Repairs
Building Permit

One to three semi-finalists will be invited to design a preliminary proposal and paid a $500 proposal fee. The proposal will include a conceptual narrative, preliminary budget, sample materials and renderings of the artwork proposed. The City will reimburse out of state artists for expenses incurred while travelling to Aurora in order to present proposals to the Panel.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
1. Quality of past work submitted.
2. Experience with similar public art project budget size and media not required but helpful.
3. Artists who do not have experience with metal can submit qualifications as a team with a metal fabrication company.
