LOCATION The Columbia Art Gallery has been operating continuously for over thirty years in downtown Hood River, Oregon. It is part of the Columbia Center for the Arts, which is a non-profit organization. The Gallery sells approximately $120,000 in art annually, and is the premier regional Gallery in the Columbia River Gorge, on the Oregon/Washington border. The Columbia River Gorge is an agricultural paradise with distinct seasons, regular sunshine, abundant water and fertile soils. Agriculture has been the backbone of the local economy, but now shares that honor with a vibrant tourist and adventure sports industry. The Hood River Valley is full of gorgeous orchards, as it is the largest producer of winter pears in the nation. The farmlands also produce wine grapes, peaches, apricots, apples, cherries, blueberries, cut flowers, and vegetables. SELECTION PROCESS The Art & Agriculture Exhibition will include images depicting the bounty of harvest, pastoral farmlands, equipment and tools, and artwork which addresses environmental and social concerns as they relate to agriculture. Jurors will select artwork that celebrates small scale agriculture and rural farm life. Submitted artwork will be individually juried and artists may submit up to 5 pieces for consideration. We expect that each image submitted is a completed piece of artwork that you are prepared to have showcased in this Exhibition. Artwork used in your application must be available to be showcased during the Exhibition Dates. The jury will take into consideration the price point of your submissions. Price has been a significant factor influencing art sales nation-wide over the last year and a half. We are encouraging all artists to be conscious of this shift. We will do our best to make sure the exhibition includes pieces priced across a broad spectrum to appeal to all budgets. One of the current sales trends specific to Hood River is the interest in local imagery. We encourage applicants to focus their submissions on agriculture specific to the Columbia River Gorge or select artwork with a universal appeal of rural farm life.
