REQUIREMENTS: Images: 10 AIPP Mission Statement The Art in Public Places program enriches New Mexico’s public spaces through an innovative and diverse public art collection. Over 2,200 works of art have been placed in public spaces across New Mexico through the program. A variety of media by artists from all cultures and backgrounds reflects the diversity of the arts in New Mexico, the Southwest, and the nation to create a diverse and dynamic public art collection for the State of New Mexico. Through a fair and open public process, committees made up of local and regional representatives work with New Mexico Arts staff to select artwork for their communities. The Art in Public Places program then commissions large-scale projects that are designed for integration directly into the architecture of a building, or the program purchases existing original artwork to be placed in public buildings permanently or on loan. Project Intent The Local Selection Committee at Santa Fe Community College anticipates the artwork commissioned for this project will be highly interactive, instructive, thought provoking, pleasant, fascinating and connected to the core values of this community based institution of higher learning. Artists using innovative concepts and materials that could be incorporated into the curriculum are encouraged to apply. Opportunities for artwork placement are exterior locations beginning with the main campus entry, continuing diagonally across the main courtyard and culminating at the new Health Sciences Building. Because the site must remain accessible during campus events, there can be no physical obstruction in the center of the courtyard or in breezeways. Artists are encouraged to respond to the environment to establish a sense of flow between the main campus entrance and to conceptually connect the College and the Santa Fe community. The selected artist or artist team may use any or all of the available space to communicate the theme of continuous innovation and lifetime learning. Media must be durable, low maintenance, permanent, suitable for outdoor display, safe for both children and adults and be ADA compliant. At the selected artist’s expense the artwork may require certification by a licensed structural engineer and a review by a professional Fine Art Conservator. Eligibility This project is open to all artists or artist teams who are legal residents of New Mexico. Artists submitting qualifications should be experienced in creating public funded commission projects of a similar scope. Qualifications submitted by and on behalf of faculty and staff of Santa Fe Community College will not be considered. Finalists may be required to submit verifiable proof of residency prior to being awarded a contract. Site Information Santa Fe Community College is the gateway to individual and community success by providing affordable, high quality educational programs that serve the social, cultural, technological, and economic needs of the diverse Santa Fe community.
