A Juried Kiln-Glass Exhibition for Emerging and Intermediate-Level Artists

March 23 through June 19, 2010, in Portland, Oregon, USA

e-merge 2010 is the sixth biennial, juried kiln-glass exhibition for emerging artists sponsored by Bullseye Glass Co.—a manufacturer of colored glass for art and architecture with worldwide distribution and a strong commitment to education and promoting glass art. Hosted for the first time at Bullseye Gallery, this exhibition will recognize students and early-career artists who are rising through the ranks of kilnformed studio glass but who are not yet represented by major galleries. e-merge 2010 offers over $5,000 in prizes in the form of Bullseye gift cards and conference scholarships. Finalists and their works will be represented in a full-color exhibition catalog with photos, bios, and artist statements. Submitted works must be made with Bullseye glasses. They will be judged for excellence of concept, craftsmanship, and design.

E-MERGE 2010 RULES FOR ENTRY

Entrant Qualifications
The competition is open to all emerging artists working with Bullseye glass in some kilnforming or kilncasting method. For this competition, you are an “emerging artist” if you are in the early to intermediate stage of your career at the date of application and your work in glass has not been featured at a major international art or design fair, such as Sculpture, Object, Functional Art (SOFA, in the USA). If you are not sure you qualify as an emerging artist, please email your curriculum vitae (CV) or résumé to: e-merge@bullseyeglass.com.

Bullseye employees (full and part-time), employee family members, Bullseye contractors, and persons currently represented by Bullseye Gallery are not eligible to enter.

Material Qualifications
All works must be made of at least 50% Bullseye glass and be predominantly kilnformed or kilncast. Works that incorporate other glass techniques (e.g., lampwork, roll-up, etc.) will be accepted. Mixed-media objects qualify as long as Bullseye kilnformed glass makes up at least 50% of the finished pieces and provides their material focus. Artwork must have been created since January 1, 2008. No submitted piece of artwork may weigh more than 50 pounds (22.68 kg). (One person working alone must be able to install it.) Works must be available for exhibition in Portland from February through July 2010.

Classroom Work
We accept pieces that are made in classes or workshops, but they must be identified as such on the entry form. Include the name of the instructor and the institution or studio where the works were made.

Academic, Kilncaster and Newcomer Award Qualifications
To qualify for the Academic Award, the entrant must have been enrolled in an accredited, university-level (undergraduate or graduate) art program during any part of the 2008-2010 academic years.

To qualify for the Kilncaster Award, works entered must be kilncast, using Bullseye billets.

To qualify for the Newcomer Award, the entrant must have begun working (or taking classes) in kilnformed glass after January 1, 2008.

Application Fee
The application fee is US $35.00, payable by credit card.

If you are/were a fulltime student at an accredited university between 2008 and 2010, you are eligible for the student discount of 30% off. If you qualify for the student rate, enter the discount coupon code STUDENT on the CaFÉ website during checkout.

Entry Process
All entries must be submitted through the CaFÉ website: http://www.callforentry.org/

You may enter from one to six separate pieces of work. Note, however, that the CaFÉ system requires you to submit six images on the application—no matter how many pieces of work you enter. Therefore, your six required images will illustrate from one to six separate works. You may submit full views or a combination of full and detail views.

For instructions on how to prepare your images to CaFÉ specifications, see: http://www.callforentry.org/imaging_tips.phtml

In addition to images, you must submit a short biographical profile (500 characters or less) and a short artist statement (1000 characters or less). Your bio and artist statement should be submitted together within the application’s “Artist’s Statement” field.

All entries must be submitted by 5pm PST, December 7, 2009.
