CALL FOR ENTRY: National Juried Photography Show, Louisville Colorado The 17th Annual National Juried Photography Show, presented by the Louisville Art Association, Louisville, Colorado will be held at the Louisville Center for the Arts from Saturday, June 28th to Sunday, July 6th, 2008. We invite your entry! Competition open to everyone over 18 years of age except where prohibited by law. All work must be the original work of the photographer and executed in a professional manner. All photo editing must have been done by the contestant. Entries selected for display must meet community standards; they will be displayed in a public place. Artists whose work has been selected for final judging will provide images that are matted and framed. Our juror and judge this year is Mark Sink, a private art consultant in Denver, Colorado. As a photographer of fine art he worked with and documented noted artists’ lives and their work such as Andy Warhol, Jean Michel Basquiat and Rene Ricard. Mr. Sink co-founded the Denver Museum of Contemporary Art and is the founder and director of the Denver Month of Photography for the month of March 2008. Mr. Sink represents and curates local and international cutting-edge fine art photography. Prizes total over $2500: $1000 for Best of Show, $100 each for the Judge’s Award and People’s Choice, $50 for a Merit Award in each category, $100 for first place in each category, and $75 for 2nd place in each category. Alameda County Artwork Purchase Program (California)

The Alameda County Arts Commission is building a public collection of artwork created by Alameda County artists. Artwork purchased through the 2008 Purchase Program will become part of the Alameda County Art Collection: Artwork by Alameda County Artists and will be placed at County buildings. The goal of this program is to continue to collect artwork that is of high-quality and original in design and idea and that reflects the wide range of excellent artwork created by Alameda County artists with diversity in style, medium, and concept. The Art Collection includes artwork that illuminates the history, culture, language, and traditions of this region; engenders a sense of continuity and belonging among the members of our community; and promotes understanding of cultural values and perspectives of all people. Up to $75,000 is available this year to purchase existing artwork. The Broward Cultural Council Public Art and Design Program is seeking to commission a professional artist or team of artists to create an original integrated sustainable, solar, or alternative energy powered artwork for Concourse A of Terminal 1. The artwork will be located in the new Concourse A, a five gate concourse that will be added to Terminal 1 just east of Concourse B. This new facility will provide a security check point area, passenger waiting rooms and concessions to serve the needs of air travelers. The selected artist or team of artists must create an original design that is innovative, vibrant, inspiring, welcoming, and environmentally conscious. Artwork must be powered by solar energy or any other alternative and sustainable energy source. The artwork will be a signature project because of its visibility from the highway and entry to the terminal loop, and because of its environmentally conscious nature. Artwork designs include, but are not limited to, kinetic and self-illuminating artworks. The artwork must be permanent, low maintenance, and in compliance with safety regulations. Non-solar or non-energy conscious artworks will not be considered. The total budget for the project is not to exceed $270,000.

The Science Building includes classrooms and labs for biology and chemistry, research labs, faculty offices and a green house. It will also house the math and computer science programs. The building will include a glass box entrance and atrium, glass and brick exterior, a courtyard and gathering spaces on the interior and exterior. This is an urban campus that faces Speer Boulevard and downtown Denver and is at the confluence of the Platte River and Cherry Creek. This campus is an intersection for change, interaction and diversity. The Science Building’s prominent location will signify the prestige that this campus has already obtained and will align itself with the State of Colorado’s commitment to bioscience and renewable energy. The architects are working to certify this building as Leed Gold. The artwork should encompass science, culture and humanity. The Selection Panel is looking for an artist with the skills and experience commensurate with the responsibility of successfully completing a major public artwork with a budget of over $100,000. This call is open to U.S. and international artists.

The site identified for this project is the moving walkway area located in a 700 ft long x 30 ft wide bridge that connects Concourse A to Concourse B in Terminal 1. Call for Artist Ideas. Climate Clock Project. A public artwork using information and measurement technologies to gather and display climate change data. The Climate Clock Global Initiative is seeking ideas from artist-led teams to create a major artwork entitled Climate Clock, which will measure changes in greenhouse gas levels, and be the first in a series of global projects calling attention to climate change. Climate Clock will be an instrument of long-term measurement and will collect data for 100 years. The artwork will be located in downtown San José, California, Silicon Valley’s city center, and will be a collaboration between an artist-led team composed of artists, international and Silicon Valley engineers and other creative professionals who are working with climate measurement and data visualization. This Climate Clock Ideas Competition is the first stage in a three-stage process that will take the first Climate Clock from vision to reality.
